Dr. Rosen-Bernays appreciates the distinctive characteristics of each individual, couple and family that she works with. She believes that each of their experiences is unique and must be addressed in an individualized way.
Dr. Rosen-Bernays works with a number of concepts she views as fundamental
in any therapy process. Initially, the observation of ones own behavior
and experiences is an important focus in her therapeutic work. Increased
self awareness provides a greater appreciation for the choices available
in responding to any given situation. In contrast, a lack of awareness often
translates into reactions that are mechanical and lack conscious intent.
Dr. Rosen-Bernays believes that there are reasons for our behavior and our
experiences that go above and beyond explanations of chemical imbalances.
In her work she encourages an attitude of inquisitiveness for an individual's
own personal narrative which provides insight as well as an empathic attitude
toward the self. Dr. Rosen-Bernays sees the development of this attitude
as an often critical achievement in the course of therapy. While self empathy
facilitates change, self pity can easily lead to stagnation.
